Most marsupials live in Australia – over 230 of the 334 species. The rest live mainly in South and Central America.

Apart from placental mammals (Placentalia), marsupials are the second evolutionary line of mammals (Mammalia). The third are Monotremes. Remember – marsupials are mammals.
