The slowest bird on the Earth is the American woodcock (Scolopax minor). For this species was recorded 8 kph (5 Mph) flight speed.

The American woodcock inhabit forested and mixed forest-agricultural-urban areas in York Factory, Manitoba, Labrador and Newfoundland. In winter, they migrate as far south as the Gulf Coast States.
