The largest known bird in the world was flightless species, Dromornis stirtoni. It had about 300 cm (10 ft) tall and about 500 kg (1,102 lb) in weight.

Similar size to Dromornis stirtoni had the elephant bird. It was about 300 cm (10 ft) tall and about 455 kg (1,003 lb) in weight, so it was lighter than Dromornis stirtoni.
