The biggest spider in the world

The largest species of spider is the Goliath birdeater (Theraphosa blondi). It has around 15 cm (5,9 in) body length, over 28 cm (11 in) leg span and 170 – 250 g (6 – 8.8 oz) weight.

The Goliath birdeater is native to the upland rainforest regions of northern South America. Despite its name, this spider does not usually eat birds but insects.
