The biggest known shark is an extinct species of predatory fish, Megalodon (Carcharodon megalodon/Carcharocles megalodon). It had 14 – 18 m (46–59 ft) in length and about 60 – 100 tons (132,277 – 220,462 lb) in weight.

Megalodon lived approximately 28 – 1,5 million years ago, during the Cenozoic Era. It preyed upon cetaceans, giant sea turtles and large whales.
