The largest contemporary reptile is the saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus). It has about 5 m (16 ft) in length and about 1000 kg (2204 lb) in weight.

The largest recorded saltwater crocodile was 7,1 m (23,29 ft) in length and 2 tons (4409 lb) in weight. It lived in the Bhitarkanika State Park in Orisa (India).
